Welcome to Pennies and Playdough! I’m Crystal.
I’m a wife to Byron, mother to three rambunctious kids, and engineer turned stay-home-momma. I love spreadsheets, organization, reading, writing, & DIY projects. I have never thought of myself as creative, but after having kids at home I feel like I am developing in that area. (Thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration! I may not come up with all of the ideas myself, but I can follow directions!) I am tall-ish, depending on who I else I am around. I see other 5’10″+ gals and immediately want to be their friend. It’s nice to have someone who understands the frustration of shopping for jeans!
Born and raised in a rural Oklahoma town, I grew up drinking sweet tea, riding in the bed of my Daddy’s truck, saying “dinner and supper” instead of “lunch and dinner,” and rooting for the Cowboys! I attended Oklahoma State University, where I met my husband, and we have decided to root our own family in Oklahoma (though in a much less rural area). I miss listening to the wind in the trees and viewing the awesome night sky, but not having to drive an hour for restaurant and shopping choices is worth it!
I love Jesus and strive to live my life in a way that is honoring to Him. I want my actions and words to be a reflection of Him, so others will see Him in me and want to know Him, too. He changed my life when He conquered the lies I believed about myself and showed me who I am in Christ. If you have struggled with your self-image, please check out my story! I pray it will be an encouragement to you.
I am frugal. I get it from my Momma. She was the coupon queen before the internet! I learned the importance of budgeting and living debt free from her. We have fun swapping coupon codes and shopping strategies. *I am also not very fun to shop with – I take forever to decide to actually buy an item, and I tend to carry things around for a while before putting them back on the shelf. Though, I buy more when I’m with my sister. 🙂
I have always had this secret dream to be a writer. I enjoyed writing test reports and other documents when I worked as an engineer. (Which my co-workers thought was weird.) I wrote stories as a kid and have kept a journal off and on since elementary school. I love putting my thoughts down on paper in a way that is easy to understand and hopefully entertaining. In this blog, I will be writing about the things I love – Mom life, making memories, and living frugally.
You now know a lot about me! (And that I use a lot of exclamation points.) I would love to connect with you! Drop me a line!
